Vodacom Fibre a worst service than Telkom ADSL
I implore anyone considering signing up to Vodacom Fibre to only do so if you have no other internet option or if you are prepared to get 20% of the service you are paying for and willing to have zero customer service or support.
I have been phoning for 2 weeks now each day to get my fibre connection fixed, as from 25 June 2019 the speed drops during the evenings from 40Mbps to 8Mbps or lower. Under high contention I could understand this, but given that it happens exactly at 5pm every single evening and lasts until midnight, it seems too convenient to me. However, 8Mbps would still be usable if not for the ping and jitter on the connection jumping to well over 100ms each (approximately 70 times higher than normal), making even my emails not want to send/receive and making it impossible to log into any international services like online gaming.
I have been on Vodacom Fibre since January 2018 and up to 25 June 2019 the line was rock solid, apart from 4 days of total loss of connection (but this was fixed well within 24 hours). However, this problem has now started after aggressive marketing by Vodacom Fibre in my area.
It is my opinion that Vodacom is either over-contesting the connection or deliberately implementing a shaping on the connection to slow down usage during peak times now that they have more customers in the area. This explains why it starts on the exact time each evening and why they refuse to give me any feedback upon my complaints. I have spoken to 2 managers, more than 10 consultants and even phoned Vodacom Head Office. Every single Vodacom employee promised me feedback and not a single one has called me back. I am now signed into a 2 year contract at R 1199 per month and I have a connection that only works properly during hours that I am at work and cant use it.
Stay very far away. Even Telkom ADSL and LTE is more reliable than fibre being managed by Vodacom.
