Vodacom Failure to Blacklist ****** Phone Led to R40,000 *****
I am extremely concerned by Vodacom’s failure to act on an urgent request, which has directly resulted in financial loss and a serious security breach.
On Sunday morning (approx. 11:30), after my phone was ****** at Tokai Community Church (captured on CCTV), I used a bystander’s phone to contact Vodacom and urgently requested that my device be blacklisted. I provided all required security information and clearly communicated that my phone had been ******.
Vodacom records all calls, and there should therefore be clear evidence of this request.
I was under the reasonable expectation that the device would be immediately blacklisted.
However, I have now been informed that my phone was never blacklisted.
As a direct result:
The perpetrators accessed my device Disabled critical security features (including Find My iPhone) Gained access to my personal accounts Created and added digital cards to Apple Pay *****ulently withdrew approximately R40,000
I have since attempted to retrieve the call recording through Vodacom, but have experienced delays and a lack of urgency at store level.
This represents a serious failure in Vodacom’s duty of care and raises concerns around how urgent *****-related requests are handled.
I am requesting:
Immediate retrieval of the call recording A formal explanation for why the blacklisting was not actioned Urgent escalation of this matter Clarity on Vodacom’s responsibility in relation to the financial loss
This situation has caused significant financial and emotional distress, and I expect it to be treated with the urgency and seriousness it warrants.
