Vodacom fails again

On 29 April 2016 I upgraded my Vodacom phone contract to a Samsung J5 phone on a flexi 200 at Game stores in Galleria Amanzimtoti.

I received the phone but only received R110 airtime per month instead of the R200 contracted for.

Despite numerous attempts to get this sorted via Vodacom’s customer “service” line I was unsuccessful.

During the month Of May the sales agent at Game made several valiant attempts to get my data package upgraded as well.

Despite several verbal confirmations from Vodacom that the upgrade would take place, nothing happened.

On 30 May 2016 I managed to get hold of a very helpful Vodacom agent called Aden who did the upgrade for me.

He promised me that a R207 router would be delivered to my door within 48 hours and that the upgrade would then take effect.

It did not happen.

On 07 June I managed to get hold of agent Aden again.

He informed me that the upgrade had been registered but that the delivery couriers could not contact me or find my address

He lodged an enquiry ref number I- ********** 2361 and affirmed that the router would be delivered within 48 hours.

I also received a confirming SMS from Vodacom to that effect.

On 09 June I received another SMS from Vodacom informing me that the upgrade would only take effect on 01 July 2016.

It did not happen.

On 02 July I spoke to a Vodacom agent called Thoko who informed me that the upgrade had been cancelled because the couriers could not get hold of me or find my address.

She confirmed that she had re-registered the upgrade and that I was to expect the Vodacom couriers on Monday 04 July 2016.

Surprise, surprise.

It did not happen.

It is common knowledge that getting anything done via Vodacom’s customer service is a time consuming exercise that more often than not ends in frustrated anger.

In this instance their incompetence and lack of professionalism defies belief.

It will be interesting to see what lame excuse they come up with to dodge the bullet this time.

Do not assume however that all Vodacom departments are this lackadaisical and ***********.

Their accounts department where they bill you for every cent they can possibly get away with is super-efficient.

It is now 6 days since Vodacom promised that a consultant would contact me to sort out my problem.
The result?
Nix, nada, didley squat.
Why am I not surprised?
In mitigation I must admit that they did say the consultant would contact me “in due course”.
They just did not mention how long the course would be.
Days, weeks, months or years.
It appears that their perpetual trait of not keeping promises or delivering on their obligations is about the only thing that one can rely on Vodacom for.
What happened to integrity and good old business ethics or did some ******* official walk off with it thinking that they could spend it?
Eish!!!!
I have great empathy for those diligent employees like Aden and Thoko who have to face the wrath of angry customers and battle the system to set things right.
My hat off to you guys.

It is now 17 weeks since my half-baked phone upgrade
Other than a response from Vodacom on this forum that a consultant would be contacting me and a request from someone called Dominic on July 14 for a copy of my invoice, I have not had any assistance from them.
On inquiring as to progress I was informed that the documentation had been forwarded to the store for assistance on July 18.
True to form it was sent to the wrong address.
Literacy does not seem to a big requirement in Vodacom
I corrected the address for Dominic and was informed that the documentation had been re-sent to the right address.
That was July 27.
Since then silence.
Judging by their performance to date, I do not think it unfair to say that Vodacom’s customer service, as well as their upgrade departments are about as functional as the ****s on a Barbie doll.
But then I would perhaps be insulting Barbie.
