Vodacom does not cancel my contract
I received messages that I am eligible to upgrade on 29 August 2020 and my contract ends on 29 November 2020. As I was not interested to upgrade, I visited the Vodacom Shop in Secunda to enquire about the procedure to cancel my contract. I was informed that I must call Vodacom cancellations (***) as the "privilege" to cancel contracts was taken away from the Vodacom stores. I was also told that an amount of R 843.02 is outstanding and it must be settled before I can cancel - which amount I did pay. I also received a message that they received the payment - ("Thank you for making payment on your Vodacom account. If your services were interrupted, note that your line will be unlocked within the next 2-5 hours"). I called *** on 16 November 2020 and gave the operator instructions to cancel my contract. I enquired whether the amount paid was captured on the system and it was confirmed. I was told that my contract will be cancelled and requested a reference number - the operator told me it was not necessary. On 17 December 2020 and 21 December 2020 I received messages that my account is in arrears (R843.02) even though I requested that my contract be cancelled. I can be mistaken but it looks like I am still being charged R 843.02 even though I already "paid" for my cellular phone. In the meantime I got Vodacom fibre which was installed on 23 November 2020. On 1 January it was off - I contacted Vodacom and was informed that it was a system error that will be corrected manually. I specifically asked if it is due to non-payment and the operator said that it was not. On or about 7 January 2021 the same happened - once again I phoned Vodacom and this time it was said that I owe R 2 311.06. In the meantime my account was suspended due to non payment. I attempted to contact Vodacom repeatedly but the calls were not even answered. I visited the Vodacom shop on 10 January 2021 and they told me that my phone account and fibre account is linked and due to the non-payment my cell-phone and fibre was suspended and if I do not pay the outstanding amount of R 2 311.06 it will not be reinstated. While I was in there the Manager of Vodacom Secunda Mr Bilaal assisted me to phone Vodacom (***) and he spoke to Mr Nikheel Tethar. Mr Tethar said that I phoned Vodacom Customer Care instead of the Cancellations department and that is the reason the contract was not cancelled. This makes no sense at all! If I did contact the incorrect department I am sure the operator would have told me and instructed me to call the correct number. Mr Tethar was EXTREMELY rude and it created an embarrassment as the entire shop could hear what he was saying. Mr Bilal also told him that there are several clients who complains about the same thing and then they come into the shop shouting and screaming. Obviously this creates an uncomfortable situation. That being said - I would like to thank Mr Bilaal and his team for really attempting to assist us. This is very unprofessional and unacceptable! When you do not make a payment to Vodacom you receive messages and they suspend your account. They have no trouble with their system to pick this up but when you want to cancel, they either do not pick up the phone, do not call back (after repeatedly selecting the option to do so) or each operator has a different story! How can this be. This makes me wonder why this "privilege" was taken away from the Vodacom stores. Due to the very bad service from Vodacom I have no other options left that to use this platform. This must be sorted out immediately! I refuse to pay anything to Vodacom with regards to my cellular contract except for actual phone calls made. I will settle my Fibre account which must be reinstated immediately. I have proof of the amounts settled and all teh calls I made to Vodacom. Mr Bilaal of Vodacom Secunda also requested me to keep him informed of the developments as he is also frustrated with this recurring problem. Regards Johan Hendricks
