Vodacom Didn't even know that Maputo was in Mozambique.

I had many incidents of over billing with my decade old Vodacom account, and decided to change to top up.

My sim is used out of the country 20% of the time, and I was tired of getting big surprises waiting for me when I got back.

I was assured at the time that my sim on the new contract would roam as before, and I would be able to load money and use it to roam.

When the money was depleted it would stop.

I liked this as it put me in control of my account. Having had so many expensive incidents in the past I readily signed up) Vodacom was clear that I could actvate the R30 travel saver when I was abroad and take advantage of the lower rates.

I soon found while roaming on Vodacom Ghana that the travel saver was not available on the top up.

(as I had been promised). I took this on the chin and didn't complain.

A week or two ago I was in Maputo and found that even though I had lots of money loaded, I could make and recieve calls but sadly couldn't access data.

I had my office call and after hours of trying everything they feild to address the issue.

When we just had just about given up, I got a call from Vodacom telling me that they didn't have any roaming agreement with Maputo. !!

In shock.

She called me on my cell while my phone was logged into Vodacom (Mozambique) but apparenly "there was no agreement with Maputo".

Seems she did't realise that Maputo was in Mozambique!!

And she admitted this. (Gods truth) (call was recorded)

I found myself on hold for most of the half hour long call.

I asked her if the call she had made (pointless, useless, ignorent call) was going to cost me and she wasn't sure so she put her supervisor on. He assured me that I would not have to pay for the call.

All my calls are recorded so I can play back any portion to amyone who thinks I am kidding.

I was billed for the call and my money swallowed up by Vodacom.

For the "support call" I got from them!

And I never did get the data roaming working.

As soon as I got back data worked and I reported the incident.

Saying clearly the contract was wrong for me and they should either allow me to change the contract, or let me take my number elsewhere.

My office escalated the matter until it arrived on the desk of :

Riael Salomon
Executive Client Liaison Officer
Chief Executive Office
Email: **********

He said that I would have to pay the remainder of my contract if I wanted out. He did insult me by offering me 2gig of data for my troubles.

No apology, or "we will try and rectify the situation", or "we will get your sim to work".

Just pay the remainder of your contract.

And promptly informed me that he would close the docket.

Clearly he had not bothered to read the content of my query.

I was not able to roam (data) , despite all assurences that I would.

Nobody was able to help depite the fact that I paid for an international call trying to get it going.

I am in the IT industry and understand the tech, so its not that I hadn't setup something correctly.

I am out of the country for close to 10 days every month so I understand how it all works.

Nobody bothered to solve, or even address my problem, or explain why somebody tasked to solve a problem with international data roaming didn't know where Maputo was!.

seriously not cool guys. !!

And Mr Salomon, you could have solved this easily if you tried. Just a little bit.
