Vodacom deletes my number without warning

I have had the same Vodacom number for the past 14 years. Initially on pre-paid, then converting to contract, and reverting back to pre-paid recently before moving to the UK on a work contract. I have always continued to use my SA number when I am in the country, also for work purposes. On my most recent visit to the country, I found I was unable to buy airtime or data. Upon phoning Customer Care, I was informed that my number had been recycled and that it would be given to someone else. I then tried to call my number and found that it no longer existed. I then went in to the Meyersdal branch and asked if I could get my number back, given that it had not been re-issued as yet. The assistant called Head Office, and informed me that I would not be able to get it back. I find this absolutely unacceptable from Vodacom, especially after being a loyal customer for 14 years. I received no warning, Vodacom did not even bother to let me know that my number would be recycled if I did not use it for a certain period of time. And then they absolutely refused to give it back to me even though it had not been re-issued yet. Absolutely shocking customer service from Vodacom.
