Vodacom & Debt Collectors Threatening to Blacklist Me Over a Closed, Paid-Up Account

Vodacom and their debt collectors keep harassing me over a R122.99 “debt” on account I***, which was paid in full, converted to prepaid, and officially closed on 01 January 2025, after my explicit requests to convert to prepaid between July - December 2024.

On 1 January 2025, Vodacom also zeroed ALL my accumulated airtime, voice minutes, and data (which was paid for). This alone indicates their full recognition of the account's cancellation and marks the end of any billing period or liability on my part. They then issued a February 2025 invoice showing a R0.00 balance — yet now in July 2025 they continue demanding payment.

I’ve sent all proof multiple times, but most recently, they’ve escalated to “draft summons” threats and pressure to enter into a payment plan — even though they are well aware the account is closed and disputed. This is not just poor administration — it’s borderline ********.

This is unacceptable and a violation of the Consumer Protection and National Credit Acts, especially since: * The account is closed * Vodacom confirmed a R0 balance * All data and airtime were wiped on 1 Jan * I’ve legally disputed the claim in writing multiple times, but they keep threatening me anyway without acknowledging my evidence.

In terms of Sections 14, 20, and 21 of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), Act 68 of 2008, I remind you that: I have the right to cancel a fixed-term agreement and not be held liable for charges incurred beyond the cancellation date - especially where the service provider has failed in their duty to process that cancellation timeously.

I demand: * Written confirmation that the account is closed * That no credit bureau listing will be made * An end to all collections * A formal apology for the continued harassment and ************

If this continues, I will escalate to the NCC, Credit Ombud, and ICASA.

Your copy-paste reply is not acceptable.
You completely ignored the actual content of my complaint — including proof that this account was paid up, converted to prepaid, and closed in January 2025, with Vodacom issuing a zero-balance invoice in February.
You then tried to call me, despite the fact that your system has been updated for years to reflect that I am deaf and cannot take calls. This is disrespectful and shows you're not even reading case notes.
I expect a proper written response via email only, addressing the real issue: the harassment, false threats of blacklisting, and your failure to stop chasing a closed, settled account.

Wow, Vodacom sends me a message to say what they've already said without acknowledging my complaint:

"Kindly note our records shows your account has been referred to the attorneys for collection. Please see below communication from our Legal Department:
User: Gugu Dlamini Dlamini Detail: EC-21JU-2EN94J Adv DCA to proceed with collection as contract was cancelled after the invoice for Jan was generated"

AGAIN, NO, The invoice was generated AFTER the account was closed. Vodacom also zeroed out ALL my airtime, data and minutes - which I had paid for - on 01/01/2025.

Dear Vodacom,
This is my second follow-up regarding your assurance that a credit of R122.99 would be submitted to your Billing Department to clear my account (Ref: ***).
You stated this would reflect within two working days. It’s now been longer, and I’ve received no confirmation or update. This delay is unacceptable, especially given the history of incorrect billing and harassment I’ve already endured.
Please be aware that a case is currently open with the National Consumer Commission (NCC). If I do not receive confirmation that this credit has been processed and my account cleared, I will notify the NCC that you have failed to resolve the matter and ask them to proceed.

Dear Vodacom

Thank you for confirming that the credit has now been app**** and the account has been cleared.

Please confirm in writing that the account is now fully settled, closed,
and that no credit bureau listing was or will be made.

I appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter.
