Vodacom Data Theft

To whom this may concern,

I am quite disturbed by the recent issue I have experienced with Vodacom. Initially I was trying to load data on my tablet via the *111# platform and I wasn't receiving the sms stating that my account has been recharged. I tried several times and then decided to call the contact centre. The lady tried to recharge my account and said that the system was rejecting it so there was a problem and she log a service request and it should be resolved within 48hrs.

It then got interesting when I tried loading 1Gb data which costs R79, 2 days later. I received an sms this time but it stated 500MB. I also checked my account billing information which was then R577 - an odd number so I decided to call the contact centre again.

1st check

The female agent then advised me that unfortunately due to it being the 28th of October vodacom prorata'd the data therefore they gave me 500mb @R59 as I would be recharged in full on the 1st.

Me - 500MB is actually R49 so why would you charge me R59 and why is vodacom making decisions on my behalf when I purchased 1Gb

2nd check

She then "checked" again and stated that I actually purchased 500mb that morning and that it was my mistake.

Me - I only purchase 1Gb of data and since it was that morning I clearly recalled that purchase. I then asked her to check my bill of R577 and to provide me with details of what the R77 was for, because if vodacom charged me R59 as she initially indicated then my bill would be R549 and not R577.

3rd check

She then "checked" again and said I see that you were charged for 1Gb data and she couldn't explain why I only received 500MB (surprise surprise ). She was then going to log a service request for this to be investigated. She also told me that there was another 1Gb data in the pipeline for November - no explanation on this as I did not purchase recurring data.

I have not received any feedback on this matter and have called the call centre twice. It also makes me question how my data mysteriously gets depleted every month and I have to always purchase additional bundles.

I am very disturbed by this incident and would like a comprehensive explanation.

Thanks

Hi

Thank you for the response.

I have just checked my bank statement and noticed that Vodacom debited my account on 1 November for R980. Yet according to the above my account was on R577.

I hope this is included in your investigation.

Thanks,

Tilene

Hi

Thank you for the refund on difference, I really appreciate it.

I am still nervous about purchasing data bundles as there was no explanation provided as to what exactly occurred but I will monitor very closely going forward.

Thanks again for the assistance.
