For the last 2 years I have an airtime only contract with Vodacom. This airtime I then convert into data. On average I use about 3 gigs month sometimes more.
The beginning of July I received a call from Vodacom thanking me for my excellent account and offered me a 20gig a month deal for R179 per month. After listening to the terms and conditions I realized that they were selling me a pocket wifi router and not actual data onto my phone contract. I explain that this is not what I was looking for as I already have a 2gig a month pocket Router besides the airtime I convert to data.. The lady explained that if I took the contract I could share the data from the 20gig router to the 2gig router if that data ran out.. So after a lengthy discussion and pros and cons I decided to accept the deal as it means I can save my airtime for actual calls and I would never be able to use 20gig in a month... Besides that we also have wifi at home so the pocket Router would really only be used when out of range from home and work free wifi signal.
So I received my router on the 4th July.. Plugged it in to charge and then tried to connect to it... Then the problems started. The router constantly had a red light on which according to the manual is no network signal. After lots of googling and swearing I eventually got it to connect but only if I plugged it into my laptop first.
After a week of this I called vodacom and explained the situation.. According to the customer service agent the router was connected to the network. But I said it was not connect to my wifi on my phone. I was told to get a phone that was compatible with the router..seriously.. It's a huawei router and I have a huawei p30 lite... How much more compatible shall I get. Anyway... She said that he would rest the router and the phone and then everything should be fine.... NOOOOTTTT!!!
Same problem occurred.. Eventually I managed to get the router to connect to my phone... YAY!!!
I've always suspected that Vodacom is ripping us all off with our data usage... I've complained to them before about it... Hundreds of megabits just missing in a day.. Well my new 20gig wifi router chewed through 15gigs of data in 2 weeks. I only switch it on in the evening when I get home and off before bed.
I have literally disabled all background apps running in the background due to previous data going missing and now miraculously have managed to use 15 gig were I probably only use 2gig with my normal airtime data conversions.
So Vodacom... I would like you to please explain how is this possible.. Please some and take my phone and explain what is eating my data as according to you it's background apps...
Please... ***!!!
