Vodacom - Corporate Flop!!!

Why does one of the largest, so called Corporate - due to the magnitude of the size and popularity - cell phone company not get the basics right!

On 28 September 2016 I entered a store to cancel my data contract as i had secured a more affordable package with an alternative company. This was after months of waiting for the time to give notice. Someone had advised me to put a stop payment on my bank account for the debit order and so that i did too, out of an abundance of caution. My monthly payment had been R120 and the final payment in October was debited at R109, as confirmed by the person who assisted me to cancel my contract. As that worked out as indicated, I was happy that all was in order. That was the last i heard or knew about the issue until 2 weeks ago when a person from a legal company called to ask for funds outstanding. I was astounded. Why had no one called from Vodacom before? The woman indicated that i had been sent emails yet in all the time of the contract's existence, i had not received on email from the giant, Vodacom. She read my email address to me and it was incorrect, my home address was correct so i encouraged her to use that form of contacting me. However, i decided to take the matter into my own hands by going to the store where i had cancelled the contract in the first place - this was done shortly after 9am on Tuesday, 8 August. There i was assisted and told i did in fact owe them and only after asking them to look more in their records on computer did they find that there was in fact a cancellation which seemed to have been rejected by the system on the day although it was accepted in the store on 28 September 2016 and profusely apologised that they would rectify the matter. I indicated my correct email address so that this time i would be copied on the messages. By Thursday the 10th no message was received so i called the supervisor in the store and was told that a reference number was awaited. This afternoon i called again, as still not information was forthcoming and was told that i am liable for the outstanding amount – after an apology in the store last wee**** I had cancelled the account with a little more than a months’ notice, that was all that was required and the last payment had been deducted in October. Now to be told this is unacceptable and no further payment will be made by me to Vodacom.

What is more important to me, and what these Corporates just don't get is - how this effects My credit record - it has been something i have been nurturing from 1983 since i started my working career and it has been a clean record which i have been proud of. Corporate flops like this don't impress me much as they have no idea how to run business properly.
