Vodacom Contract *****

I took out a cellphone contract for my son 2 years ago. He no longer uses the contract but I understand I should pay the subscription of R220 per month. I stopped receiving bills for this account and the debit orders stopped going off my bank account late last year.

The first time I called the call Vodacom call centre, I was told the account was in arrears and I had to pay almost R6000 because someone had changed the debit order bank details but clearly were not paying. I was also told that the cellphone number had been allocated to someone else due to the non-usage of the number.

I thought ok, I will pay the R220 per month and just let the contract run it's course and close it after the 24 month is up. All of a sudden my bank account was being debited of over R1000 per month.

When checking with the Vodacom call center on the 6th of June I hear that I have another contract on my name. The new contract even includes a monthly premium for a handset!! So, not only am I paying for the contract that is not being used, but also for another account that clearly is being used.

I did not sign any contract or give approval for this contract to be added to my name. I have send numerous email to the Vodacom ***** dept. asking for proof of where I signed the new contract, but up to now I have received no feedback.....but they ensure the debit order goes off each month.

I want to know how someone can take out a contract on someone else's name without an ID, proof of residence etc?
