Vodacom : Contract And Service Problems

Dear Hello Peter,

Vodacom has sold me a new 1024MB contract which included a Samsung Tablet and a cash amount that could be used for children's education. See my earlier report dated 10 March 2015 in this regard. I tried in vain to cancel the contract because I was not happy with the services that I received from Vodacom. They charge a 70 percent cancellation fee on what is left of the contract. I accepted the contract against my will.
I then started to receive phone calls directed to the telephone number given to me by Vodacom. The callers were speaking in Zulu and could not converse in English. I gathered that they wanted to speak to the previous holder of the sim card and phone number. I also started to receive messages in writing and by phone from various debt collectors. This freaks me out as I am now seen as the owner of the applicable telephone number and may be held responsible for these debts. I may also perhaps be contacted rday and night by people who are looking for their money. This is totally unacceptable. I requested Vodacom to change my phone number. Vodacom contacted me today and said they will only change the phone number if I amend the contract. Excuse me?!!

Reviewer Update
It is now November 2017. The status-quo on this matter is still as per my review in April 2015. Vodacom promised in their reply that they will contact me to investigate, consult and assist. That did not happen!! I am still receiving phone calls and messages from unwanted persons trying to contact the previous owner.
