Vodacom complaint - insurance policy declined
To whom it may concern On the 4th of March, I went in to the Mall@Reds branch in Centurion to have my screen fixed. I was then told that it would take 21 working days without a phone, a min of R700 co-payment and all my data would be wiped off my phone. As I found this to be highly unacceptable and quite fankly, ridiculous, for paying almost R400 for over how many months and years, I decided to not get it fixed and cancel my (useless) policy. I did this at the same store. The consultant at the branch phoned in to Vodacom Insurance to do the cancellation, and handed me the phone because I apparently had to speak to him too. This insurance consultant advised me that I cannot cancel my policy immediately, that I had already been debited/paid for March and that in fact, I needed to give 30 days’ notice, so I would still be debited for April as well (this was confirmed via sms I received today stating my debit amount still includes my insurance fee). Needless to say, I was livid. However, accepted yet again that it was out of my hands. On the 25th of March, my phone got ****** at Fourways Mall. After taking all the steps necessary to submit a claim, under the guidance of the Vodacom Insurance agent that my policy will remain active for the time I still need to pay (March – already debited and April still to be debited), this includes calling in and blacklisting my ****** phone, getting a case number from a police station, going in to the same brand to submit the claim, I was then informed that I no longer have an active policy and the claim has been rejected. As per the Vodacom Terms and Conditions quoted below, the wording clearly states the reason a client cannot be refunded to be because you still have the benefit of cover. Therefore, it was completely outside Vodacom’s rights to cancel (make it non-active) my policy for the remainder of March, resulting in me paying/already have paid for the month of March and yet still planning to bill me for April. This is not something that should need to be explained to any service provider. When any contract is cancelled, you can still use the service for the remainder of the month you have already paid for. I have requested both recordings on the 4th of March where I was advised my policy CANNOT be cancelled immediately and will still be active and debited for March and April, as well as the recording with policy admin today discussing and clarifying all of the above, requesting the recordings and the policy terms and conditions document. If this matter is not resolved URGENTLY, I will involve the Ombudsman, and log a complaint in line with the Consumer Protection Act. I have been with Vodacom for over 14 years and it disgusts me to receive this type of service. Needless to say, I will be cancelling all my contracts this year.
