Vodacom charge 75% remaining contract to cancel

I have seen this issue brought up before but do not know the outcome.

I have recently relocated overseas, when i requested to cancel the current Vodacom contract which i am 15 of 24 months into, Vodacom calculated i would be required to pay the full amount for the remaining 9 months multip**** by 0.75 (75%) plus there would be a cancellation fee included.

According to the Consumer Protection Act, the cellular supplier may charge a \reasonable\" cancellation fee. This is undefined and 75% is certainly not reasonably. The National Consumer Commission has provided their description of a \"reasonable\" amount, and the first point is that it should not be biased or one sided, i certainly think 75% is one sided!

I am willing to pay the remaining fee on the handset and a cancellation fee in order to cancel the account. MTN offer a similar approach, yet Vodacom feel it right to charge 75% of the future potential earnings, which is what the consumer protection act was implemented for, to ensure we do not pay for a service yet received!

I look forward to Vodacoms response. I am overseas and therefore email is preferred. "
