Vodacom cancelation cost

I have been a costumer of vodacom for over 8 years. I am wanting to cancel my contract due to emigrating. I am told it will cost 9000 to cancel the contract.. Sorry What!!!! The phone is a p20 lite it's a 4500 phone. How can it be 9k. I understand charging me the balance of the price of the actual phone. But to charge me for data and air time.. Come now.. It doesn't exist, its digital and there are no chargers involved.. Surely there is something vodacom can due to exclude the the data and air time.
