Vodacom Canal Walk Ripoff

I went to Canal Walk on Saturday 25th January to take out a contract on an Iphone 16 at vodacom. I was then quickly approved and signed a contract & received my brand new device. Upon arriving home and setting up the phone, the device started heating up and the entire screen began glitching , the device did not allow me to do anything on it , not even unlock it. I then contacted the salesman who helped me and he said to return the faulty device within the 7 day return period. I then went to the store today , after not even having the device for 24 hours and they refused to replace the device in store. They told me the device needed to first be assessed and i would receive it back in the next 7 days. I then decided to cancel the contract and they denied it by saying that if i wanted to cancel my contract i would have to pay the full price for the device in order to cancel it. Meaning i would have to pay R970 for 36 months =R34920 in order to cancel the contract. I felt ********** because the Consumer protection act states that we are allowed to return a faulty device within the 7 day period and cancel the contract free of charge. I am also within my rights to receive a new device which they refused to give me. I also did not receive a hard copy or electronic copy of my contract up until i asked for one today when returning the device. I think it’s unfair that I have to wait 7-14 days for a new device when they’re just going to repair the faulty device and give it back to me. Then what is the point of paying a contract for a new device.
