Vodacom and SIM Swap *****

On Wednesday, 13 Feb 2019 Eeufesia Theron became the victim of ***** via SIM Swap on her cellphone. She had NOT agreed to any transaction and yet she was ultimately de*****ed of R50 461.

The ********** transactions took place at Cellucity, Paddocks in Milnerton. Whomever the employee responsible, they had used the reference of an employee who no longer worked for Cellucity, but whose access to the system had negligently not yet been revoked.

She has the employee reference number and sales agent used in the transactions. She was informed that even though she had ‘cancelled’ the one-time-pin/sim swap request, it was activated at the branch and this discrepancy reflects on her records at Vodacom.

Vodacom clearly indicates in our contract that we cannot hold them responsible for any risks associated with the use of your SIM card, BUT we can hold them accountable for losses caused by “the negligence or intentional misconduct of Vodacom…..or any of the respective employees, directors or agents”

Since 13/2/2019 she has tried to hold them accountable by submitting complaints against Vodacom and Cellucity. The last was submitted to the National Consumer Commission on 9/9/2019. She has endlessly tried to communicate with them and have to this day, yet to receive any feedback in terms of her complaint. The industry should protect us as consumers and compensate us for our losses suffered. She was de*****ed by their employees! This is clearly not happening!
