Vodacom and Opera Telecom - in cahoots

<p>Vodacom and Opera Telecom, together with other online subscription based services (Buzzy Life, Get a Price) are guilty of predatory behaviour on unassuming customers which is tatamount to *****.</p> <p> </p> <p>My Vodacom statement for May reflects a daily charge of R17.54 (since 19/5/2017) for "subscription services" that were never authorised by myself. When queried, Vodacom's standard response is - "this is not us, this is between you and the subscription service, service provider, but we can cancel it if you wish."</p> <p>They can not however verify that this service was actually actioned or authorised, nor do they accept responsibility for recovering the amount (R192.94 for May and a further R228.02 mtd June). This is not an acceptable stance from Vodacom as far as I am concerned - being a Vodacom loyal customer for over 20 years, I expect more.</p> <p>My simple questions are:</p> <p>1. How does this happen? If I did not "opt in"</p> <p>2. Why does Vodacom not have a more defined anti ***** policy preventing such an occurance</p> <p>3. Why are these unsavoury service providers not red flagged as being *******?</p> <p>4. Why am I, the customer, not better protected?</p> <p>5. What recourse do I have?</p> <p>Once again I state on record my abject disappointment and discontent. Vodacom you should be doing better.</p>

Reviewer Update

Thank you Vodacom, however I felt obliged to post my review on Hello Peter after I had logged my complaint through the internal Vodacom channels to no avail. Furthermore I have placed a call through to Vodacom Head Office ( ********** - for people who are frustrated with only getting through to a call centre), trying to talk to someone within Vodacom Leadership to discuss my issue. Surprisingly everyone was in a meeting but would get back to me after 10:30 today (I was assured).

With regards to your standard response regarding "phishing", once again, no authority was given to any service provider to deduct moneys in lieu of a subscrption from my account! Not online nor on Whatsapp! If Vodacom is aware of phishing ****s, what is it doing to protect its customers. And furthermore, what is it doing to protect it's customer loyalty?
