Vodacom and Amazon Cloud Services Depleting Data
In the last two weeks my 4G data has been depleting at a fast rate. I carry over data every month. I reported it to Vodacom and they said it is because of my Iphone backups, that is not possible because ICLOUD can only backup on wifi. I am connected to wifi at work and home. On the data manager of Vodacom it shows Amazon Cloud services. I booked in for two days and no apps shows this amount of data usage. I googled and found apple is in partnership with Amazon cloud based services. On my secondary wifi router that I travel with it also uses large amounts of my data. I want an answer from Vodacom!

Good day Mr JP Straus, All usage was registered on the network via the SIM card and IMEI number of the device and therefore cannot be manipulated in anyway. The charges and information registered on the network is governed by ICASA to ensure fair practice. Vodacom therefore only reports on the:- Volume of data used (Volume)- during each connection (Startof event)Please see attached Usage report. Please note that the function for Amazon Cloud is Securely store all your files on the cloud so you can access them from anywhere. Please switch off Wi-Fi assist on device to prevent your device to switch over to data connection. Kindly be advised that we do not monitor nor record website and URL information, however on your device, you would be able to see which applications and websites were used. Please consider a data monitoring tool onto your device/laptop, this will record what the data is being used for. More info on your cellular data usage, go into Settings. Then tap on Cellular. If you scroll down & at first you will see your total history. It will show your Call Time and total Cellular Data Usage. If you scroll down further, you will get an alphabetical list of all the apps have use cellular data. If you scroll all the way down at the bottom, you will see a button called System Services. If you tap on that, it will show you how much cellular data you are using for various applications. If you don’t find this option you can also download the Onav...
Please be advised that as an Internet Service Provider Vodacom only records volumes used on the network, we therefore do not have data on which websites were visited. As a gesture of goodwill was credited with 20GB Data. Consider installing a router bandwidth-monitoring app via the internet such as https://www.paessler.com/ to manage your usage. We also recommend that you download the My Vodacom App on your mobile device link the Routers number then you will be able to monitor your data usage. Go to Balances select data then select View detailed data usage. Have a pleasant day further! # Regards Consumer Website Team
