Vodacom account ***** attempt

I was almost a victim of *****. A random stranger went into a Vodacom shop (Newtown) to request a sim swap with a ********** driver's licence that had my ID number on it. i ahve been a customer with Vodacom for almost 10 years and they have all my documents and could not do a simple varication check on the system for my ID or licence. When i called the customer centre they informed me that they ar not able to stop the sim swap request and i must just block my line and not have access to my calls and messages for the next 48 hours and then i must request a sim swap myself to have the ********** sim swap reversed. and i must pay for a sim card myself despite the negligence of Vodacom in the first place. The very same ********* then went into another Vodacom store (Ghandi sqaure) and requested an upgrade, and the most expensive package at that (an iPhone 7 plus cellphone on an unlimited package). Luckily the guys at this store had more sense and called me as soon as this had occured.

i am very disappointed at the service or rather the lack thereof from Vodacom customer care. My personal bank account could have been hacked had the sim swap gone through. This is disappointing indeed. but at least the person that processed the ********** sim swap request was very helpful and was able to do what the Vodacom customer centre could not do and that is to stop the sim swap request before it went through and he helped me to identify the **********. However went i asked the shop to call the police when the ********** were back in the store, they did not and could not even provide me with the video footage of the suspects. i had to put my life at risk and approach these ********** myself and even managed to grab the ********** license and take pictures.

I cannot express how shciking and disapointing this is. Vodacom you have let me down as a loyal customer and i do not feel safe at all and what worries me is the lack of support and assistance. My entire life could have been disrupted by this one act.

Vodacom customers are not safe as the security measures are lax...
