Vodacom: A Horror Story of Unpaid Monthly Premiums
I, J W Perold was contacted by HP Attorneys via email; Case HP ***7 around 20 January 2026 for arrears on a Vodacom contract for internet data. It turned out that the arrears was for 15 months, yes, to repeat 15 months amounting to an outstanding amount of some R10500. I am blaming Vodacom accounts for letting this situation to develop over a period of 15 months. How can any business anywhere sustain such losses because of *********** people not doing their work? I strongly believe head should roll in Vodacom for allowing such a payment shortfall to develop over such a long period. I am a pensioner of age 73 and have many debit orders of similar amounts going through my account and I never checked monthly deductions over a period of 15 months spanning form Oct 2024 to 22 Jan 2026. I am devastated that this situation has developed and paying this amount is going to leave me out of pocket substantially. I simply cannot afford to do it.
On 9 July 2024 I negotiated a better contract with Vodacom fiber with a better price and dealt with a contractor consultant, Mr Sachin Aidan Jordaan for a reduction of R129 per month from R829 per month to R699. There was also going to be a bit of respite at that time with the new premium kicking in somewhat later. Vodacom was then going to reduce that debit order from R829 per month to R699. VODACOM NEVER DID THIS WHILE I NEVER CHECKED WHETHER VODACOM IS IN FACT DEBITING MY ACCOUNT ON EVERY MONTH END. Everything went smoothly. I even got a new rooter in Dec 2024 from Vodacom as I was on a new contract after a lightning strike on 17 Nov 2024 which damaged the rooter. Then on 20 January 2026 I saw the email from HP attorneys that I am in arrears with Vodacom. In this period of 15 months, Vodacom never phoned me or sent me an email that my account was in arrears, yet Vodacom has the audacity to run to a debt collector with this serious problem of non-payment.
I did this check myself and confirm that the outstanding amount is some R10500 The questions that arise: 1. How can the accounts dept of Vodacom let me have this service for 15 months without debiting me or SIMPLY CALL ME A MONTH OR TWO LATER or email me informing me that my service will be cut off due to my non-payment? 2. What is the loyalty of Vodacom towards its clients? I have been with Vodacom for some 13 years now and nobody had the guts to just simply discuss this matter with me, yet Vodacom runs to Debt collector to solve this issue? I have informed the HP attorneys that I will not even attempt pay this account or even a portion of it unless a senior manager from Vodacom gets involved in this matter. On 22 January I sent two emails explaining my position regarding this matter to the Vodacom and HP Attorneys. To date Vodacom has failed to reply. I will not settle this account with Vodacom as I am sure any Court will understand this problem and that I am not solely responsible for this problem. Vodacom will have to negotiate with me. I am not going to deal with the debt collecting attorneys. I want a conversation with a senior manager at Vodacom regarding this matter. Anyhow, the only way you can get Vodacom’s attention about a serious problem is to go public on the matter.
I trust Vodacom will resolve this matter amicably as I still want to continue with them as they have the only fiber line in my residential area where aerial reception is poor.

Vodacom Customer Service has not yet contacted me via telephone or email regarding this matter. Meanwhile, the debt collecting attorney continues to send threatening messages, demanding settlement of the outstanding account within seven working days and threatening legal action.

I have repeatedly asked HP Attorneys and Vodacom Customer Care to contact me regarding this
matter.
Both have failed to do it. In terms of HP Attorneys I had brief email communications with Me
Thulisile Langa only.
Today 29/1/2026, I contacted Vodacom Customer Service about the matter and after much delay
I eventually got to a lady called Nomsa at Vodacom Fiber accounts.
After telling her the entire story she was fairly nonchalant and said that there is nothing she can
do about it as the matter is with the attorneys now. I told her that she can read the entire story on
Hellopeter if she is interested.
I reiterated the following:
1. That this case has two components.
2. I want to continue with the data service contract and Vodacom must institute that R699
contract, which was to be on a month- to- month basis. This payment will be due on 30 Jan
2026.Once that is up and running we can look at a better cheaper data package from Vodacom.
3, The issue around the outstanding amount for services rendered for 15 months needs to be
negotiated. I informed HP Attorneys and Vodacom that I am willing to settle 50% of it in one
settlement within 7 working days. For this Vodacom/HP Attorneys must provide me with an
account. No service costs or interest is going to be paid to the attorney.
I have tried to negotiate this agreement with Vodacom and HP Attorneys since about 22/23
January 2026 without success.
If this fails to be implemented by Friday 30 January 2026, I will assume that Vodacom does not
accept my offer.
Then Vodacom must suspend my line on 31 January 2026 and proceed with legal action against
me.
I will then go and explain my story to a Magistrate.
