Vodacm shares my personal information with a third party without my consent.
On or about 1 Dec 2022 i did an upgrade on one of my vodacom contracts.
On or about 12h4 on 2 Dec 2022 i received a call from a man(name supp**** but inaudible) ,of which call i made a recording, who said he was calling from vodacom and that he saw that i made an upgrade the day before and asked if i received the sms to confirm the upgrade and as i did not i told him that i did not.
He then told me that the deal did not go through and that he woukd like to assist me to get the deal done.
After that he told me he has to cancell that deal and reload the deal without the required sms athentication. I accepted his word and he proceeded to " help" me to do the deal again.
After the deal was " properly done" he informed me that he can see that on 3 of my other contracts he can lower the monthly premiums AND provide me with a baseline smartphone on each of them.
I SPECIFICALLY asked him if it was to upgrade my existing contacts which he clearly told me was NOT the case.
I thanked him and the call was ended.
The following day i received a call from vodacom upgrades to ask me if the pending upgrade must be put through or not. I told the lady that i already did the upgrade on the 2nd and that i was waiting for the phone. She told me that NO upgrade was done on that number on the 2nd but and the one on the system was done on the 1st and was still pending. After talking to her for a while i found out that NO upgrade was done on the 1st on the number i originally asked but only on the three that the person who helped me on the 2nd had told me was NOT upgrades. I also found out that the man did NOT call from vodacom but only " on behalf of" vodacom and that it was a company called Rewaeds Call
My problems are as follow.. 1) Vodacom gave my personal information to another company without my consent and according to me it is in contravention of the POPI act. 2) Following that i acted to my detriment and was misled to believe it was not upgrades and now has 24 months added to 3 of my contracts which i did not want or need. 3) Vodacom themself CANNOT cancel the contracts and i must now trace and negotiate with the company which i didn't know i spoke to as their "upgrades" was binding on me on the system.
I want answers as to why my information was shared and supp**** to a third party without my consent, why a third party can upgrade a contract that are not due for upgrade AND the not even Vodacom can cancel those upgrades and thirdly how an outside company can verify my details as it is reflected on the system at Vodacom as if that person are from Vodacom.
