In July 2023, I received a call from a consultant claiming to represent Vodacom, offering me a contract for 20GB of data at R291. Throughout the conversation, I expressed my skepticism about the deal being legitimate, but the consultant assured me multiple times that it was indeed possible.
Despite my reservations, I decided to proceed with the contract, only to discover the next day upon receiving an invoice that the terms were not as promised. I did not receive the data or the pocket roster I was assured of, leading me to cancel the deal immediately due to these discrepancies.
Now, I am facing harassment from the credit bureau, claiming I owe Vodacom. It’s baffling how I could owe anything when the agreement was based on terms that were misrepresented to me. A telephonic contract should include clear, honest communication regarding services and pricing, with both parties agreeing to the terms. It’s concerning that companies can create such confusion and then pursue penalties for agreements that were not properly established.
I encourage anyone considering a contract with Vodacom to be vigilant about what is promised over the phone. Always request written confirmation of the terms before proceeding.
