URGENT: Privacy Breach – Recycled Number Still Linked to My Account and Zero Action Taken!

I am beyond frustrated with Vodacom’s total lack of urgency and accountability regarding a serious privacy breach.

On April 8, 2025, I sent an urgent email to Vodacom informing them that my old mobile number, which they recycled and reassigned, was still linked to my Vodacom account.

A woman using the number called my new number and informed me that my personal information — including billing and account details — was showing on her Vodacom profile. When I checked the app, I could also see her information, including what appears to be an active contract line under her name.

This is not just a minor glitch — it’s a severe violation of the POPI Act and a massive breach of both our privacy. My credit card details and other sensitive information are visible and potentially accessible to a complete stranger because of Vodacom’s careless handling of my account.

To make matters worse:

I called Vodacom customer care on , April 8, 2025.

I was promised that I would receive daily calls until the matter was resolved.

Not a single follow-up has happened since that promise.

No response to my email. No call. No resolution. Nothing.

If the person using my old number has used my credit card or accessed my data in any way, Vodacom will be held 100% liable. This is not my fault — this is the result of your gross negligence.

I demand:

Immediate unlinking of my old number from my account.

A full investigation and written report.

Confirmation that my data is secure and inaccessible to others.

Compensation for this breach and the emotional stress caused.

An apology backed by actual action, not empty words.

This issue has been ongoing for over 4 days now. Apologies don’t fix this — rectifying the situation and taking accountability does.

Sort this out, Vodacom.
