Upgrade messup at Vodacom 4U, Woodlands Centre, Pretoria

3 weeks ago my elderly mother (84) accepted a quotation from Vdacom 4U (Woodlands, Pretoria) for an upgrade of her cellphone contract.

They gave her the assurance the phone willl be ready for collection after 3 days (they wil call her when it arrives). (Name of employee: Andre)

(Phone selected: silver iPhone SE 16GB)

After about 10 days without a word from them, my mother made inquiries and she was told it is on "back order" - they are still waiting

Yesterday (21 December 2016), 3 weeks after acceptance of the quotation I personally went to the store to make enquires.

Then the following took place:

- Andre was not in the stre, so Brandon asisted me.

- I was told the Silver is no longer available and yes, Andre should have phoned her (So my mother would have waited FOREVER for a call)

- They said the Rose Gold and Gold colours are available; (AND in stock according to their documentation) (Employee name: Brendan)

- When I decided to switch to the "Rose Gold", Brandon phoned the warehouse to confirm stock

- Brandon was told they don't have any stock AND they will not get stock for this particular phone any longer.

- I was told my mother would have to select another phone., e.g. the 64GB phone which would cost R100/month extra (too much for my pensioner mother) or something else than a iPhone - e.g. a Samsung (that my mother doesn't want after the recent Samsung debacle)

When I asked what now, they just pulled up their shoulders and said the quotation was in any case "subject to availabilty", nothing they can do about it.

I experienced a "don't care" attitude and lack of respect from the store personnel

I left the shop with my mother's paper work, never to return again.

Since then I assisted her to do an online upgrade to a silver iPhone SE 64GB for only R25/month more than U4's quotation for the smaller 16GB phone (Not the R100 extra as U4 told me)

I am also shocked that a high-level technology company relies on stock lists sent to the stores by email - why don't they have an online facility to assist store personnel to get realtime information from the warehouse?

I expect at least an apology from Vodacom to my mother, if not some sort of compensation for the disappointment and trauma caused by this episode.

If they show interest in contacting me, I can provide them with my mother's name and phone number.
