Upgrade and why you should rather change suppliers

Tried to upgrade online yesterday and recived notification that my upgrade was successful at 10am. According to Vodacom's website that means that my order should have arrived today because:

1) order was placed before 12pm on a weekday (confirmation of successful order received at 10:07am)

2) I live in a major city centre (aka Cape Town)

3) there was stock available (as confirmed by both the website and mor confirmation email)

4) online orders over R500 get free next day delivery (upgraded to S8, so yes over R500)

Tried to get hold of Vodacom to confirm when delivery would take place only to be shunted from department to department in the call center with nobody knowing what was going on to be finally told 2 hours later (this is NOT an exageration) that my order does not exist (despite me haing received confirmation that it does)

Twitter yeilded the usual send us your details so we can contact you, my phone has yet to ring.

I was told by call centre staff that my only option would be to upgrade in store (at my own cost of course) so I went to the nearest store only to be told that becuase I am not on debit order (because I cancelled my debit orders given that I was incorrectly debited several times by Vodcam on the incorrect days for the wrong amounts) I now have to pay 50% of the handset costs up front before I can upgrade a contract that I have had for more than 8 years. My account is up to date and active with no arrears and I was able to upgrade my tablet a few months ago without having to be on debit order, so that makes zero sense.

I actually desperately need to get a new handset today and apparently nobody at Vodacom has any solution other than the highly insencere "I understand your problem".

Don't tell me you understand, don't tell me you'll escalate it, just do your job and fix it.

I just want to thank Vodacom for contacting me...
,,, several hours AFTER I posted the review and all the tweets. Unfoturnately they decided that at 16:30 on a Friday afternoon, they were unable to address any of my queries or help me in any way.
They do however understand my frustation and are very sorry! Wow!

The situation has literally gone from bad to worse.
Since this incident I have been sent "my device" by Vodacom. The device sent to me from Joburg (apparently Cape Town is not a major city in South Africa) turned out not to be the upgrade that I ordered and was confirmed by Vodacom. I was sent a single sim card instead of a Samsung S8.
I was then told that Ram couriers had to collect the sim and return it to Joburg before Vodacom could cancel the upgrade (which they got wrong in the first place) enabling me to start the whole upgrade process from scratch again.
Ram were supposed to collect today. They did not. Why am I not surprised!
Vodacom's response: "We are following our process", which seems to be punishing the client for the mistakes that Vodacom makes.
Here's a hint, if your process caused the issue in the first place then it might an idea to not follow that same process again and instead prioritise correcting the issue that it caused. That's called customer service.
