Unsuccessful contract cancellation - pathetic service

Vodacom offered me a 5GB data contract with a free WiFi router on 05/09/2016 during a telephonic promotion, with the pretence that it would be a saving on my total data costs on my contract. I was assured that I could cancel within 14 days if not happy. I accepted the offer and received the goods on 07/09/2016.

Shortly after activation of the SIM, I realised that this was an entirely new data contract that would cost me R199 per month for the next two years and I decided to cancel the contract. I phoned cancellations on ********** on 12/09/2016 and was assured that a courier would come and collect the goods, upon which the contract will be caancelled.

Having heard nothing from a courier company (to arrange for collection) by 14/09/2016, I decided to phone Vodacom again. There was no record of the previous call and Vodacom denied that they had received a cancellation call from me. I demanded that they give me a reference number for the cancellation call - received 1- ********** 9007 as issue reference.

Having again heard nothing by 07/10/2016, I phoned Vodacom again, time: 09:30. Spoke to Joseph who told me that the issue was marked as resolved, because the courier was requested to come and collect the goods from me. He transferred me to Sales ( ********** ), but after 30 minutes of music and messages I terminated the call.

I phoned cancellations (1958) again at 15:15 on 12/10/2016. I decided to record the call on a voice recorder. Spoke to Andile who could not help me. Asked to speak to his supervisor (Simon) who transferred me to Sales (1945) again. Spoke to Thembinkosi, who arrogantly refused to open the issue, because it was resolved. I demanded to speak to his supervisor, Esther (time now 15:45). She opened the issue, acknowledged that it was their mistake and transferred me back to Thembinkosi for him to dispatch a courier for collection of the goods. He confirmed that the goods would be collected within 3 to 5 days, upon which the contract would be cancelled.

The goods have not been collected, to this day, and Vodacom continues to charge me R199 every month for this contract.

I am too fed-up with Vodacom to try and phone again.

More than a month has passed since your reply, without anyone from Vodacom contacting me to resolve the matter, except that a courier company came to collect the goods on 30/01/2017.

The number is still active, Vodacom is still charging me for the data contract and I have received no credit for the amounts charged from September 2016 until February 2017.

It seems that Vodacom responds for the sake of being marked as a responding business, but you take no action to resolve the issue.

Another month has passed without any further response from Vodacom.

I will now have to lodge a complaint at the National Consumer Commission.
