UNSOLICITED VODACOM INSURANCE MESS.

This is my second review this year alone during the period of 3 months. I upgraded my phone online in February 2020 and while doing so I given an option to choose whether I would like to insure my phone or not, and the option that I chose was against having insurance added to my instalments, meaning I DID NOT request to have my phone insured.

In June, I received my monthly statemant as per normal and insurance was included and it was backdated, I had to pay for May and June and the instalment was around R850. Upon receipt of the statement I called the insurance department, several times before my debit order went through on the 15th of June, so that they can cancel my unsolicited insurance, however, I could not reach them. On the 15th of June the debit order went through and I could still not reach them, I then decided to reverse the money on the 22nd of June while I was still busy trying to get hold of the insurance guys. After the reversal I paid the amount of around R450 which is the amount I agreed to pay for my phone when I upgraded, the amount exclusive of insurance. I called them with no luck of getting hold of them until my second debit order went through again, this time around with an amount of R1100, I reversed again and paid for my phone. They called me on the 17th of July after my second reversal and after I wrote a review on this platform to cancel my insurance, I then thought my insurance nightmare is over, until last week Friday, 04 September 2020, when my service from Vodacom got suspended because of short payments. I was adviced by the Vodacom customer care consultant to email the insurance company to credit my account so that it can be reinstated and I did not get any response till today, and the email was sent on Friday. I feel like I am being forced to take up insurance because now I cannot use my phone the way I want to use it as it is suspended and my credit record is negatively affected by this ordeal.

As far as I know taking up insurance is a choice and that freedom of choice is brutally taken away from me and I have been a loyal paying Vodacom customer for 6 years now. Vodacom insurance please fix this mess that you have put me in had my calls been answered the first time I called in June this would have been avoided. I will not pay the R750 that they claim I owe because on insurance I never wanted in the first place.
