Unsolicited Subscriptions from Vodacom!
I've been using Vodacom for years and I started noticing smses saying I've subscribed to Vodacom Fantasy league for R3/day. I started to observe that my airtime was "disappearing" and I could not even unsubscribe by sending "STOP ALL" to 31050 as I kept getting error messages. I then wrote to Vodacom on 2 October on Facebook and they told me how to unsubscribe on the app. It was there that I discovered that I was subscribed to 3 services for a total of R13/day. When I reported this to Vodacom they were condescending and imp**** that I click "yes" to every pop-up on my phone. I am the only one who has access to my phone, if I'm not looking at the phone then it is locked, I have never received unknown pop-up's and I have a decent understanding of the English language to know what I agree to. Even if I lack understanding and click "yes" to every pop-up, I still have a big issues with the process. In order for me to purchase data or something similar I have to initiate the process by dialing *111# and have to go through various options including the final part where I have to confirm if I truly want to purchase the product for that specific amount. But when it comes to these ***** subscriptions an accidental push of a button is enough to tie one to a contract. Today on 19 October I want to buy airtime to use on my phone so I decided to go check if I'm not subscribed to anything that will take my airtime but to my surprise I find 2 Vodacom Fantasy League subscriptions. I don't think I'm the only one with this problem and I think investigations need to be done. At the very least Vodacom needs to put in a process where one needs to initiate the process and make it equally complicated as when is buying data or other products. I've read about these ********** subscriptions but I don't know what Vodacom has done to stop them.
