Unreasonable cancellation fees from Vodacom - they are real sharks!
I requested a quotation to cancel my Vodacom contract, as I am emigrating. Their penalty fee is 75% of the remainder of the contract value. The other SA mobile networks (MTN, Cell C and Telkom) typically charges a penalty fee of one additional month after the implementation of the cancellation. This seems to be fair as they will no longer provide a service after cancellation, but they do need to cover some additional costs.
Watch out for Vodacom, they are real sharks!

10 Jan 2020, 16:17Hi Vodacom,
Thank you for your very sweet "FU" reply. It does not provide me with any confidence that you are remotely trying to be an ethical institution. It is a response of utter arrogance and completed ignorance to that point that I am making. The best that you could do was to hide behind the T&Cs, because you cannot defend your abusive policies:
The Consumer Protection Act says that the supplier may impose a reasonable penalty when a fixed term contract is cancelled. What I am questioning is how do you as Vodacom conclude that 75% of the remaining contract value is a reasonable penalty, when your competitors (who have a similar cost base to yourself) conclude that one month of the value of the contract is a reasonable penalty amount?
You are just being abusive. My point of Vodacom being sharks still stands. No wonder that your logo looks like a shark fin in a pool of red blood...
