Unfair Ts & Cs for contract customers

I have a dispute that I have repeatedly attempted to resolve with Vodacom without success or even any progress.

In short, I had 4 numbers with Vodacom on contract:

- Two of the numbers had been out of their contract period and Vodacom had been charging them on a month-to-month basis for over 6 months.

- The other Two numbers have about 3 months remaining for me to complete the term of the contracts.

In February 2016 I fell behind on my monthly payments. Vodacom locked the numbers and then they deleted them off their network without consultation or notification on the 10th of March 2016.

On 17 June 2016 I received a letter of demand from the Vodacom Legal department that I need to pay R4, 479.44

On 20 & 21 June I paid up all the arrears amounts and requested the following:

1. For the two numbers that were already outside the contract period to be reactivated and switched to pre-paid &

2.The other two numbers which still had 3 months to go on contract to be re-activated & re-instated so that I can complete the contract period and pay for services I can access rather than pay money for early cancellation when there's only 3 months to go.

It was at this stage that I was told that my numbers have been cancelled and I need to pay R105 per sim card to reactivate them.

My dispute:

- Firstly, I had requested back in February & March that I wanted the two numbers that were out of contract to be converted to prepaid. I was told by Vodacom that I can only do so after I pay the entire outstanding amount on my account as they could not charge and settle the numbers separately.

- I honestly don't feel that R105 to re-activate numbers that Vodacom deleted without notice is justified when it costs only R5 or less for a new sim card and it costs absolutely nothing to do a sim swap. Also, it's their administrative inefficiency that prevented me from cancelling the two numbers that were out of contract & now I should pay a total of R210 just to make them prepaid numbers.

Vodacom's response

I have been in contact with Vodacom several times during June & July 2016 and no-one seems to know how to assist in raising my objection and getting formal feedback from Vodacom. One of their agents in the legal department said there was no-way they could help and I asked her to confirm that several times over our conversation and she did. I requested a recording of the conversation on 28 June 2016 at 11am. To date.... It has not been supp****.

The accounts department sent me to the legal department. The legal department sent me to the cancellations department who in turn sent me to Customer Care and the cycle continues.

No one is prepared to apply their minds and respond formally on why my request can or cannot be entertained.

In conclusion, as a matter of principle, it is ludicrous that I must pay R105 per sim card to reactivate my numbers after having paid in access of R2000 per month to Vodacom for the past 3 years.
