Unfair consumer practices
Just like many others here I am so frustrated with Vodacom’s unfair consumer practices. Vodacom frustrates its customers every chance it gets. I got a contract in 2021 November. Unfortunately in 2023 I became unemployed for the whole year.. this being a situation beyond my control.Vodacom rightfully so listed me at the Credit Bureau. In 2024 February when I got a job I called Vodacom to resume with our arrangement for them to debit R400 from my account for me to settle the outstanding arrears accrued while I was unemployed. They were debiting since then. In October when I got a better paying job so I went to Vodacom store on 24 October 2024 to pay the remainder of the outstanding amount in arrears. I settled the account and now the contract became active again as it was previously suspended. In the same month on 28 October my account was debited R400 which returned unpaid as there was no funds in my account because I had the impression that I had already paid for the month. I did not understand why I had to make two payments considering that I do not have money stacked in my account waiting for Vodacom to debit. So due to the unreasonable debit order that returned paid I was charged penalty of R300.00. It’s been over a month since i paid Vodacom the outstanding debt but they never cared to update my information with the credit bureau by profile remains unchanged while everything else on the credit report is accordingly updated. As if that is not enough frustration. Yesterday on 26 November Vodacom was supposed to debit R700.00 from my account which was inclusive of the unfair penalty. When I called to inquire as to when the debit order will go off. I was informed on top of the R700.00 there is also an additional R400. For subscription for December.. while previously I used to pay in arreas Vodacom debited my account over R1000.00. Due to this unfairness I decided to exercise my right to cancel the contract prematurely.. I was initially given a premature cancellation quotation on 16 October and it is stated that its valid for 14 days. Me still being within the 14 days , yesterday was the 10th day I went to the store and paid the cancellation fee I was quoted. I had to do it at 17:00pm after work.. however cancellation department was closed. I called customer care to indicate that I paid cancellation fee and I want them to terminate the service I won’t be using any Vodacom services. The agent I spoke to told me that the cancellation quote was not valid as it was cancelled on their side.. but how because it’s within 14 days???? At this point I have paid up Vodacom all the money for the cellphone. It was R7000. 00 and now since I paid the outstanding arrears and the cancellation fee I don’t know what I would still be owing Vodacom under the contract since they say the cancellation was invalid. I am a frustrated customer and this situation just makes me cry that I am being held under a contract I do not want and I have met my obligations to cancel it at this point I don’t know what to do. It’s as if I have no rights under the contract I only have obligations .. when I meet the obligations new obligations are added unreasonably so.. I separate with R4048 to Vodacom in one day (on 26 November 2024) I have kept records of everything.. all I want is for the contract to be cancelled as I have paid the cancellation fee and all the penalties and subscriptions I owed … I owe nothing
