Unfair and Ongoing Rejection for Cellphone Contract Despite Efforts to Resolve
I’m extremely disappointed with Vodacom’s handling of my repeated attempts to take out a cellphone contract. For nearly a year, I’ve made multiple applications, each time being unsuccessful with no clear or consistent explanation provided.
Initially, I was told that an outstanding debt might be the reason. I took this seriously, settled the amount in full, and followed up - yet I continue to be denied a contract. I’ve gone above and beyond to rectify any issues that may have affected my eligibility, but despite my efforts, nothing has changed.
This ongoing treatment feels completely unfair, especially coming from a brand as large and reputable as Vodacom. I’ve been patient, proactive, and transparent throughout this process, and I expect the same level of respect and service in return. At this point, it feels like I’m being blocked with no valid reason, which is both frustrating and disappointing.
What adds insult to injury is the fact that I’ve been a loyal Vodacom prepaid customer for nearly a decade - if not more. After so many years of commitment to the brand, this is the treatment I receive? It’s absolutely unacceptable. This isn’t just a customer service failure, it’s a complete disregard for long-standing customers who go above and beyond to do things the right way.
I hope this review will prompt someone at Vodacom to take accountability and finally assist me with a proper and satisfactory resolution. Loyalty should stand for something.

I am writing in reference to your recent communication regarding my service ticket (reference number EC-21BK-3.....), which you have claimed was addressed via email post our very short telephonic call where I requested we park this follow-up call and pick it up the coming Tuesday, as one would understand that today is Good Friday. I would like to clearly state that no such email correspondence was received from your side. The only communication I received was an SMS at 14:44, two to be specifi, which stated:
"Dear Vodacom Customer. Your service ticket with reference number EC-21BK-3..... has been closed. Thank you Vodacom."
It is deeply concerning that a corporation of Vodacom’s size and national importance would misrepresent facts in this way. This is not only misleading but undermines customer trust. I urge you to review your internal processes and communication methods to ensure accountability, transparency, and above all, reliability.
As one of South Africa’s leading telecommunications providers, I don't think I have to remind you that Vodacom plays a crucial role in upholding the rights of South African citizens as outlined in Section 7(2) of the Constitution, which obliges the state - and entities performing public functions - to "respect, protect, promote and fulfil the rights in the Bill of Rights." Access to communication is a basic enabler of multiple rights, including:
1. Section 32: Right of access to information
2. Section 33: Right to just administrative action
Your failure to provide proper and reliable communication not only affects consumer confidence but may also infringe on these constitutional principles.
I trust that this matter will now receive the attention it deserves, and I request a proper follow-up via email as originally claimed in the telephonic conversation.
