Unauthorized Sales Consulatants Selling Insurance
To Whom It May Concern
“ I have been a Vodacom premium customer ever since Cellphones where introduced in this country. I have done more than 10 Premium subscriber upgrades since then. On 15/12/2017 I did an upgrade at Vodashop Rivonia. The Consultant asked me if I needed insurance to cover theft or damage to my new phone. I agreed. There was no other requirement required from me. There was no policy document or any material to guide the transaction or any record taken of the advice given. In addition I was never given a copy of the policy document even after receiving my new phone. My phone was ****** on 1/1/2018. I am told that I must pay an excess of R4687.00 which was not disclosed upfront. Upon enquiry I discovered that the Consultant who served me is not a registered Financial Services provider in terms of FAIS regulations and had no clue as to what excess I needed to pay whenever a claim arises. This is a total misrepresentation of financial service advice. Furthermore there are no signs inside the store to indicate that the store is a Financial Service Provider in terms of the ACT. Vodacom is taking consumers for granted. I have taken up this matter with Cellsure who instead of addressing the concerns are prepared to reduce the excess to R2503.00. This is ******** and I will be escalating the matter to relevant authorities and social platforms to protect unsuspecting consumers from this ******* practice.”
