Unauthorised, ******* SIM swop at Vodacom Call Centre

On the 25th of December 2016 (yesterday) my dad's iPhone went offline and it said "no service".

When we phoned 111 just now, they confirmed that "someone" simlpy phoned in yesterday and requested a SIM swop and it was done. Apparently it was requested telephonically via Customer Care and the request was simply granted. Easy peasy.

It ALSO happened 6 months ago, at 5 AM, from a call centre in Pretoria and it was a massive story to go and change banking details for security. Apparently this was an inside job. Their security system is above and beyond rediculous. Last time we didn't hear anything from Vodacom again regarding the previous matter even though we had to go to the police to report it - nobody was found quilty or reported and Vodacom didn't get back to us to give feedback.

So apparently every 6 months any ******** can phone in and request a SIM swop on your number and it is simply done.

I can't for the life of me fathom why and how Vodacom can be this lackadaisical regarding their clients' security. They leak like a sieve. And it seems every time you report this, it doesn't seem like the issue is investigated and nobody is found quilty.

We just spoke to "Johnny" (not his real name) at the call centre from Vodacom in Johannesburg. He wouldn't give me his surname and also not the surname of his superior, for "their security". ...but our security apparently doesn't matter.

In retrospect, Vodacom doesn't allow a SIM swop if the client isn't personally present in the Vodacom shop. So the person we spoke to today should have from the get go told us and realised himself that something was fishy because SIM swops CANNOT be done telephonically.
GET YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER. This matter will be taken further to the highest authorities at Vodacom. We cannot deal with ***** cases like this every 6 months. GET YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER!
For the sake of transparency and to show you care about your clients, this unauthorised SIM swop should be traced and the person who is responsible should be prosecuted and COMPLETE FEEDBACK SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THE CLIENTS and SAFEGUARDS IMPLEMENTED ENSURING THAT THIS NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. What (didn't) happen last time will happen this time: we want answers and feedback throughout the process. We have been loyal Vodacom subscribers since 1995.
