Unauthorised Contract and Incorrect Arrears Reflected on My Credit Profile

A few months ago, I discovered an arrears amount reflected on my credit account, which appeared to be linked to an unauthorised Vodacom contract opened in my name. I engaged in several discussions with Vodacom to resolve this matter. I was eventually assisted by a representative from the Hello Peter department, who was able to confirm that the contract in question was not authorised by me and subsequently cancelled it. Unfortunately, I cannot recall her name. Despite the cancellation of the unauthorised contract, the arrears amount remains listed on my credit profile. This has caused significant inconvenience and reputational harm, as it has negatively affected my credit score and prevented me from applying for study loans. I would like to know what steps I can take to have this issue rectified permanently, and whether I am entitled to escalate the matter to the Small Claims Court to seek redress for the distress and inconvenience caused. Additionally, I would appreciate clarification on the verification processes Vodacom has in place to prevent unauthorised contracts of this nature from being created under innocent consumers’ names. I look forward to your urgent response and assistance in resolving this matter.
