Unauthorised account access by WASP
This month I received a shock when an additional amount R1029 was included on my account for content services. Upon inquiry Vodacom stated that this was from a third party WASP, apparently I had unwittingly subscribed to a WASP for R50 per day. I stated that this was unacceptable to me as I had not received any product or service from this WASP, and could they provide proof of any such transactions they said they could not, but that I should phone the WASP involved, this made me extremely irate.
How can Vodacom provide my cell number to 3rd Parties and then bill me on their behalf without my permission? Where are my consumer rights in all this?
Eventually I phoned the WASP and found that I could not talk directly with the actual WASP, but went through an intermediary who e-mailed them on my behalf. They said that I had downloaded something and that I had filled in all the required fields on prompting, but that they would refund half of the outstanding amount. Yet no actual details of the transactions were given or of the goods that I had received, They asked for my bank account details to do an EFT. (If I do this who knows what will be taken from my bank account?)
