Unacceptable customer service when requesting cancellation of a Vodacom contract
Last week I went into the local Vodacom shop to cancel a cell phone contract, the contract period of which had ended in May 2020, and to convert the number to pre-paid/pay as you go. I went into the shop to do this because previous interactions in the past with Vodacom on the phone have always been a disaster. I was advised that I could not do cancellations in the shop but I was assisted withcalling the cancellations department. Predictably this phone interaction was also a disaster. I find it completely unacceptable that when I advised the consultant that I wanted to cancel a contract and convert the number to pre-paid/pay as you go, I was repeatedly harassed by the consultant to sign up for an alternative contract. The more I requested the consultant to simply cancel my contract and advised that I did not want another contract, the more she persisted with trying to sell me an alternative contract which I did not want. After 10 minutes of repeatedly insisting that I simply wanted the contract cancelled, the consultant eventually reluctantly acceded to my request. This is an invasion of my privacy, and it is my right to cancel a contract without being bul**** into signing up for an alternative contract. It was an most unpleasant interaction which I did not appreciate. A complaint communication sent to Vodacom customer care has of course not been responded to.
