Travel Saver - Impossible to Cancel and Blatant Theft

I will be based between SA and the UK for the next 2 years, while I work on a project. When I first arrived in the UK on 24 July, the Travel Saver I had activated on my account kicked in. It simply was not possible to cancel this through the Vodacom4U site or any other means and as a result, I was charged R30 per day consistently between July when I arrived and October when I returned to SA. Fortunately for me, I had changed my Vodacom account to a flat R60 per month rate, and so the extent of the ‘theft’ at this stage (I call it that as there was no way of cancelling this) was limited to R60 per month.

I arrived back in SA on 21 October, and the first thing I did was contact your call centre. The agent who took my call advised me to go through the steps as per your website to cancel the Travel Saver. I told her of my issues, and she tried to assist me with this. She also discovered that false information is provided for cancelling the service, and that the processes do not work. So she escalated this, and the higher ranking person experienced the same problem. Eventually, after some time trying to resolve the problem, I was advised that this had been successful, and the Travel Saver was cancelled.

I received an SMS from account *** as follows: "You’ve successfully opted out of the Travel Saver service". So I thought it was all sorted out.

You can imagine my anger when I arrived back in the UK on 03 November, and again received an SMS from Vodacom to say that the R30 per day for Travel Saver has been deducted from my account! And another one on 04 November, so once again, the full R60 I have available monthly on my contract has been extinguished.

This is now blatant theft. I have the proof that the service was cancelled, and you will have the recordings of the call on 21 October.

Where do we go from here? From my perspective, if I do not get this resolved now, once and for all, my attorney in SA will handle it from here. Under the circumstances, please understand that all costs will be for Vodacom’s account. This will cost you a great deal more than siphoning R60 per month from me.

Good day

Please ensure that the consultant contacts me via email - given that thanks to your inability to switch off Travel Saver, I have no airtime available on my cell phone number.

Thank you.
