Terrible service from Vodacom Repairs
I took my phone in to the Vodacom Repairs store at Cresta on 5th December for a screen repair and was warned that it would take 2-3 weeks because the phone needs to be sent to Vodacom Fourways. I told them the phone was insured under Samsung Mobile Care's policy. I was asked if they could wipe the phone and I specifically told them not to. They wrote it on the job slip and I also provided the pattern for my screen lock so that the wipe was not necessary. I phoned the Fourways branch a few days later and asked them to quote me to replace the battery as well. They quoted me and I was happy to pay for the replacement, as I didn't think Samsung would cover it. No one could give me a straight answer about how the Samsung policy worked and I was going back and forth between emailing and calling Samsung and the Vodacom shop to try to get approval for the quote - my policy expired on 17th December and the quote was only approved on that day (even though the phone had been with Vodacom since the 5th!) When the Samsung Mobile Care claim had finally been approved, I mentioned the battery again, and was under the impression that somehow it was covered by the policy - although I would have been happy to pay the excess plus the battery replacement which I'd been quoted. I told them to go ahead with it and I paid the excess as requested. It was almost impossible to speak to the same person twice, I had to email through proof of payment twice to different people after receiving urgent SMS's to pay it. I eventually got a call on 31st December at around 1:30pm from Cresta, which I missed. They didn't leave a message and when I phoned an hour later the person that called had left and no one could give me an update about the phone. I went to fetch my phone on the 4th January and eventually got the phone back, with an invoice that did not include the battery replacement (ie. it was not done, even after requesting it multiple times) and the phone WAS WIPED! I am furious about this - there's not much I can do now, but I specifically asked numerous times for it to not be wiped and it was clearly written on the form. Surely if the request wasn't clear, someone could have called me (and left a message or sent me an email if I wasn't available) and asked exactly what I wanted done and I can't think of anyone that would specifically want their phone wiped, so why was that the default thing to do, even when I said I didn't want it. Had I known, I would have taken my phone home and backed everything up and brought it back another day, but I was confident that the very clear instruction would be adhered to. The screen repair seems good, but now I'm going to have to take it somewhere to get the battery replaced, so I'll be without the phone for another few weeks.
