Terrible service from Vodacom

I have been a Vodacom customer for more than 20 years...basically since cell phones came into the country. I have been a loyal customer, even though there are far better deals out there...and apparently better customer service. In July last year I took out a data contract for work-use-while-at-home which gives me 10GB per day, 10GB per night worth of data. After more than a year of no problems with the data easily lasting the month, my data ran out in November in less than 2 weeks, even though I only use it for emails and internet research. After several calls to Vodacom customer care, I was told that a technician would look into what had consumed my data and would get back to me. I'm still waiting on that. I was gestured 10GB which, similarly, did not last till the end of the month. On 1 December I received my monthly allowance of 10GB...which disappeared the next day. Several more calls to customer care followed with promises of technician assistance while at the same time telling me it was impossible to see what my data was used on. Still waiting on a response from that technician. Out of desperation I sent a message to Vodacom's Facebook page, explaining my story. I was told that I really need to put a password on my router and was gestured another 5GB. I rep**** a few hours later with a screenshot of my login page which shows that a password is definitely required to connect to my router (and has been since I got the contract in July 2018) and to let them know that the 5GB they gestured me lasted less than 3 hours. I was told "Let's have another look at this and get back to you." Still waiting on that as well. In order to send a very important work email, I decided to take the plunge and buy 1GB worth of data. That disappeared before I had even finished typing my email. I sent another message to the Vodacom Facebook page explaining this and begging someone to please get back to me. that was 3 days ago and my message has not even been read yet. Someone I know knows someone who works in customer care at Cell C and suggested that I ask him if he has any ideas. Within 30 seconds of hearing my story he asked the magic question: "Do you have One Drive on your laptop?" I rep**** that yes, indeed I do...it is a work requirement. He explained that every time I connect to the internet, my entire One Drive folder syncs, thereby using massive amounts of data. He told me it's a common problem (and by that he means well known to those in the industry!) and instructed me to change the network setting on my laptop to "metered connection on" and WALA....problem solved! Sure...it was a setting on my laptop so, ultimately, my fault but does Vodacom tech support not know this or do they play dumb so that customers will upgrade to bigger packages/buy more data? Either way, I am so disappointed in Vodacom that I have decided...after decades of loyalty, to ride out my two contracts, cancel them and move to another mobile service provider. To top it all off, apparently, even though you are supposed to only pay 75% of the remaining costs should you decide to settle, it will apparently still cost me more to settle than to just pay the remaining monthly instalments as they become due because "you got a discount when you signed up and if you cancel early, we will charge you the full amount!"

I really hope my review will not simply disappear into the ether like my data but judging from the number of "one stars" on this page, I am not optimistic!

Dear Vodacom,

When you say that a consultant will contact me "in due course", can you let me know how long that is? Are we talking dog years?

Kind regards
TW

Dear Vodacom,

Yes, my query was resolved but not by anyone at Vodacom which is why I'm surprised that your "records indicate that feedback was provided". As per my detailed message above, my query was resolved by a Cell C technician who, within 30 seconds of hearing my problem, was able to direct me to change the router setting on my laptop to metered connection, thereby solving my problem. With the exception of the two messages you have posted here and the similar reply I got when I informed whoever runs your Facebook page that I was cancelling my contracts, I have not heard from anyone at Vodacom since posting my first message above. My issues had nothing to do with whether the billing was correct or not. My issues were, firstly, nobody at Vodacom appears to be able to tell customers how their data is used. How would you know the billing is correct if you have no idea how the data is consumed? 10GB of data disappeared in less than a day and nobody could explain to me how that happened. Secondly, not once in the many times that I called customer service and messaged your facebook page was anyone in technical support able to actually provide any technical support....all that anyone could actually tell me was that the data had been used up. (Yes, I already knew that, hence my call!) Thirdly, I was promised no less than 4 times (5 if you count the promise in your reply above) that someone would call me back with feedback. Still waiting on that. In totality, my experience with Vodacom has been less than satisfactory, mainly since there has been no effort on your part to remedy the situation or try and keep me as a customer, despite being loyal for more than 20 years. If this is what you mean by "resolved" then yes, consider this query resolved.
