Taking Vodacom to ICASA (Ombudsman)

21 Feb I called Vodacom to cancel a R199 data contract which had expired. I made it very clear that i did not want this data contract. A very persuasive cancellations agent persuaded me to do an upgrade to a R99 contract with a phone, as they were giving me a special deal as they did not want to lose me as a customer .,Against my better judgement I agreed but regretted my decision and called back (within 24 hours) to cancel, again stating I did not want the data contract or new phone and asking not to debit me at the end of the month. Vodacom said (Sat 22nd) they couldn’t cancel because the phone had been dispatched to the courier already and that when the courier phoned on Monday I should tell them not to deliver it and as soon as they receive it back they would cancel the contract. I told the courier not to deliver when they phoned me twice and I even phoned the courier company as well to confirm and phoned Vodacom again, as advised by the courier. Vodacom claim to only have received the handset back on 3 March. Interesting that the phone was due to be dispatched to me within less than 3 working days yet it took them 7 working days to acknowledge receipt of the phone back which was after the debit had come off and the debit was for R199 and not the reduced upgrade amount of R99. I then received a statement in March showing that I was going to be debited again for R199. I phoned through to cancellations again to complain about the fact that this still hadn’t been cancelled and that I was going to be debited again. I was told that only the upgrade had been cancelled. This is the biggest CON ever Vodacom. I made it quite clear that I did not want any data contract with Vodacom. I phoned to cancel the R199 contract, got SOLD an upgrade, cancelled it within 24 hrs and told you that i didn’t want any data contract with Vodacom yet you are still debuting me. You are wasting my time deliberately making it difficult and *****ing my money!!! I have not used one bit of the data you are charging me for. I want my R199 refunded for Feb and for March. I was told that someone would contact me back about the refund for Feb as the consultant wasn’t able to process if and nobody did. (Plus I gave my Vodacom number that I use all the time) What part of ‘i cancelled this contract ***, R199 on the 21/2/2020 and again the upgrade on 22/2/2020’ do you not understand ??????? You have had more than a month to resolve this issue so I am now taking this to ICASA as this a deliberate attempt to keep taking my money. Note reference is from my most recent call on 19/3/2020

Same old response as last time and then someone phones to ask if my issue has been sorted out, knowing full well that it hasn’t been sorted out and that you are doing nothing about it. What happened to first call resolution. Technology is so advanced that there is no excuse for this kind of inadequate follow up. Every single issue that requires resolution should have a reference attached to it but you don’t do that Vodacom because you earn interest on the money that owe back to customers and the longer you string them along, the more you earn
