Sudden unexplained massive data usage

<p>I contacted Vodacom this morning with regards to a sudden upswing in data usage. The usual phone bill for the number in question is in the region of R850 - R1100 per month. I just got a bull for R3996.08. But even more disturbing is when I checked the current usage (Dec 01 - Dec 13 the bill is sitting over R7000.00. This is a result of data usage by a background app. Previously Vodacom established a pattern of informing us via SMS when we were running out of data, however in this incidence over the last 2 months, no such SMSs have been received. As they had established a pattern, I think this is unacceptable. When talking to the call centre operator, she said she was receiving a lot of complaints about this exact same issue. I also asked that the accounts be modified so that one doesn't have the issue of Vodacom merely billing one for unpurchased data at their inflated rates. In other words the data stops, and mor data needs to be purchased to continue using the facility. In a way, it is not in Vodacoms interest to alert you to the data issue, bacuase they will make more money by not alerting you or stopping usage. I have lodged a dispute but I think that the non-notification and the apparent inability to stop usage when the assigned data runs out could be greater issues.</p>
