Struggling for more than 3 MONTHS to cancel a contract
I have been a loyal Vodacom customer for nearly 15 years now. There has been hiccups in the past but lately, their service stinks (and that is saying it nicely). I have several contracts, as I pay for most of my family's contracts. One of these contracts finished in June 2020. I decided to cancel the contract since Vodacom no longer offers me any kind of control over my own account. The user can just spend and spend and I have no control to limit it I am just expected to pay!
So, I phoned the cancellation department mid-June, around the date that the contract comes to an end. The guy keeps me on the phone for more than 30 minutes trying to convince me not to cancel. Eventually, I had to inform him that I don't have all day to chit chat and that I would like to CANCEL the contract. I can literally hear how his attitude changes (Which by the way, is sucky customer services, and just confirms that I am making the right decision)
He then proceeds to tell me that he will send a "quote" and that I need to sign it and pay the amount if there is anything due. When I asked why there will be an outstanding amount he tells me that he said: "IF, IF, IF, I said IF". and no further explanation.
I received the "quote", which had a zero balance, which I signed and send back by reply email. THIS WAS IN JUNE!!!!
July comes, and the contract is still active. So, I phone Vodacom again and explain the situation, I am informed that only the person who initiated the contract cancellation can finalise it because it is pending. But, they will escalate the matter to their team leader and the contract will be cancelled. I phoned no less than 3 times in July again, to get this sorted and each time I get the same story... It has been escalated and I will get confirmation that the contract has been cancelled.
So, here comes August and guess what?! The contract IS STILL ACTIVE!!!! Another 4 or 5 calls and here we are... The contract is still active!!!
I've asked to speak to a manager or a team leader or anyone other than just a call centre agent. Then I get told that they are all working remotely, which in this day and age is no excuse. Once would think Vodacom, as a TELECOMMUNICATIONS company, has a way for their management staff to COMMUNICATE with angry customers. (By the way: I am currently working remotely do and I am 100% available and accessible even though the company is not a communications company. So Vodacom, what is your excuse?)
Well, Vodacom... I have 8 other contracts and if you don't get this sorted out TODAY, I will go to the bank and cancel my debit order and cancel all my contracts.
I am DONE with your ridiculously bad service!
