Starting a new job without a phone, thanks to Vodacom

I cancelled my contract with Telkom Mobile on Monday, 27 August, and switched to prepaid, with the aim of moving over to a Vodacom contract with a number porting, as I wasn’t happy with the service I have received from Telkom. Unfortunately my experience with Vodacom has been sub-par so far, to say the least.

I phoned in to the Vodacom shop in Northgate on Thursday, 30 August after having been successfully confirmed I was on Telkom prepaid, and spoke to Lawrence (Who gave exceptional service so far, thanks). I asked him to keep a P20 lite (Blue) aside for me, and we already started the porting process over the phone. I read the pin out to him, and was assured the port would be successful by Friday, 31 August.

On Friday, I was still on Telkom, only to be told (when I went in-store) we have to redo the porting process, and I have to return Saturday. I then spent hours in Vodacom on Saturday while Lawrence tried to fix the problem, only to be turned away again. I have just returned (YET AGAIN) from the Vodacom shop (It is now Sunday afternoon, and I spent hours there until they closed at 2) and I AM STILL NOT PORTED!!!! I start a new job tomorrow, and now I have to go to my first day without a phone, without airtime, without anything, thanks to Vodacom Technical’s incompetence. Note that this is not a complaint about Lawrence, but rather Vodacom’s systems being as your technical department failed to deliver repeatedly over 3 days.

I am still on Telkom, and am happy to go back to them again, if you don’t want my business. You will have to make this up to me with a value-add on top of my contract, otherwise I will now not move over to you. I request that the value-add be 500MB additional data, monthly for the contract term.

Contact my partner on the number listed (I don’t know if my number will be active or not by the time you read this) if you are interested in rescuing this deal.

Not-so-friendly regards Marco
