Sim Swop - Inability to protect its customers from ***** & No Tracking on system of who did what!
I have been a loyal Vodacom customer for over 25 years, but my recent experience has left me deeply disappointed and concerned about Vodacom’s ability to protect its customers from *****.
On ***, I discovered that my Vodacom number had been compromised. I was logged out of my WhatsApp, and my contacts received suspicious messages requesting money. When I visited a Vodacom store to resolve the issue, I was informed that a SIM swap had been performed on my number. Shockingly, the Vodacom representative admitted that they could not trace who had authorized or performed the SIM swap.
This is completely unacceptable. How can a company as large as Vodacom not have proper tracking mechanisms in place to monitor and log SIM swap activities? The fact that ********s can perform SIM swaps with no accountability or traceability within Vodacom’s systems is a serious security flaw. It suggests that there may be internal complicity or negligence, which puts all Vodacom customers at risk.
I urge Vodacom to: 1. Implement stricter tracking and logging systems for all SIM swap requests, including the identity of the person authorizing the swap. 2. Investigate this incident thoroughly and provide me with a detailed explanation of how this breach occurred. 3. Take responsibility for the harm caused by this *****ulent activity and ensure that affected customers are compensated. 4. Enhance security measures to prevent future SIM swap *****, such as requiring in-person verification or additional authentication steps. 5. Also a ***** mailbox - I found one on the web but the agent told me it is not working. This is a ******** offense, and your employees are assisting other ********s in *****ing money. They need to be locked up along with their ******** friends.
This incident has not only caused me significant stress but has also put my personal and financial security at risk. Vodacom must be held accountable for failing to protect its customers. I expect a prompt and serious response from Vodacom regarding this matter.
Disappointed, Neren Lakhraj
