Hi Vodacom | Vodafone
I am writing to formally express my frustration and dissatisfaction with the customer service I have received regarding the authentication and SIM swap request.
I have been using my number for over 20 years, and it is extremely important to me. However, when I contacted Vodacom for assistance in recovering my number, I was informed that the system could not authenticate me over the call centre, according me it's because there is not sufficient history to kick start the process, because I don't make calls with the number. No clear reason was provided for this failure. I was then advised to visit a Vodacom store for further assistance.
Upon visiting the store, I was asked to provide five numbers that I have called, but this SIM card is primarily used for receiving calls and SMS messages—I do not regularly make outgoing calls with it. As a result, I was unable to provide the requested information, and the store was unable to authenticate me.
However, I did use the SIM to make a call yesterday after a very long period of not recharging or making calls. I called one person because I was experiencing SIM card issues with the number I usually use for calls. Unfortunately, I lost my SIM card when I removed the SIM tray from my phone, and the Vodacom SIM card got lost during that process.
What frustrates me the most is that my number is still active on WhatsApp, yet Vodacom has not considered using this as an alternative means to verify my identity. I have tried every possible solution suggested by Vodacom without success.
I find this process unfair, as it does not accommodate or cater for all prepaid customers like myself who primarily use their numbers for receiving calls. I urgently request that Vodacom finds an alternative way to authenticate me—whether by sending a PIN via WhatsApp, verifying my identity through other means, or any other reasonable solution.
I do not want to lose my number due to an inflexible verification process. Please escalate this matter and assist me in recovering my SIM card as soon as possible.
I look forward to your prompt response and resolution to this matter.
