What I thought would be a smooth transition from my previous network whose number I had for over 10 years, has turned to be a stark path full of contours.
While I appreciate the fact that Vodacom approved my contract in a short period of time whereas my previous network was taking me for a ride wanting to approve/give feedback on a contract application for almost 10 days (reason why I left them), I was ill-advised by several Vodacom consultants with different views on the porting process. Ultimately, Vodacom assigned me a new (recycled) SIM card that belonged to someone who for some reason seemingly is still using it for all her transactions. As as result, I am left with one contract number for which I am a subject of unsolicited calls from unknown numbers, even the previous SIM card holder's bank transactions notifications.
To my dismay, when I realised that I was not gonna get my old number, a different consultant advised me to buy another prepaid SIM and port my old number to vodacom , taking advantage of the 14 days online deal cancellation period but without guarantee that the second application may be successful. My several calls to the call centre and visits to Vodacom shops bore no fruit, as all had the same c****ographed answer: "you can not convert it unless you cancel the existing contract". Now, am presented with such a predicament for which I am not sure how long I am going to endure. All I hoped was that Vodacom could convert the contract to my old number which has now been ported from MTN to Vodacom.
