SHOCKED TO DEATH BY THE VODACOM BILL

I have had a contract with Vodacom on this number, since 2013.

I took the current contract, Smart S in late 2016. I have been paying between R708 and R1.3k during this time until October 2016 when the bill came at R7820.52. During this time I had instructed Vodacom to cap my total bill at between R1k and R2k, this was accepted by Vodacom. I was never informed that about the inefficiencies of the system, and I had used this service seamlessly in the past, Vodacom would just softlock my handset when the limit was reached.

I queried this amount and did not pay it, my bank dishounoured the debit as I did not provide for it and did not have that kind of money. Vodacom immediately suspended my numbers. When I asked Vodacom why such a high bill when I had asked them to cap my bill, I was then informed that the system is not efficient, that it sometimes does not register when the desired limit is reached! Now this was the first that I was told about it. I also queried the huge 600% jump from the normal maximum bill of R1.3k. I then received some very unclear reports.

I felt trapped and asked Vodacom to offer me an option to pay the amount in a few months. During December, I contacted Vodacom again to request the statement so I could settle the bill and I got a shock of my life when I was informed that I now owe Vodacom R18, 299.79. How did this happen as the devices have not been working since October 2016 and at that time the bill was R7.8, where does the R10k come from? Vodacom has not given me answers.

I feel extremely aggrieved by the utterly horrible treatment I received from Vodacom and their poor customer service. I cannot afford to pay this unexplained charge as I do not have that kind of money. I do not want Vodacom to ***** my clean credit record because of their system errors which I was not made aware of in the first place.
