****** by Vodacom- R63 000

A twin call (Sim Swop) was set up at the rewards contact centre at 23.28 hours on 31 December 2016.

Thereafter , somehow my banking details were known and approximately R 63 000 drawn out of my bank account and credit card--the latter was always in my possession. On discovering this , the twin call was deactivated on 6 January 2016. How can this be done at this time of night and without the account holder being present? I have managed to trace the names of initiator of the twin call and the sales agent which I have forwarded to Vodacom. I laid a charge of ***** with SAPS. I sent an attorneys letter of demand on 28 February 2017 requesting that this matter be addressed and that the funds be returned to me. To date I have not heard a word from the legal department at Vodacom.

Effectively, this was activated on New Years Eve and with the twin call set up by the employees/ agents of Vodaco. The one time passwords sent by my bank was being intercepted by the second SIM. I had no knowledge at the time of this *****. There must have been collusion between these people and my bank as I have never given out my banking details. I am in audit and tax practice and fully aware of cyber crime and would never disclose personal details.

I believe that with all this information furnished to Vodacom, they should take internal action and admit liabilty for my loss. No twin call should ever be set up without positive identification of the account holder, proof of residence etc. and certainly not at midnight. Vodacom have an obligation to protect their clients , but in my instance are choosing to ignore the internal break down of controls and the ***** committed. This is unacceptable and indicative of the ethics of management , in my personal view, at Vodacom.
